Privacy
How personal information relates to this static editorial website and the enquiries you choose to send.
Who is responsible
Sortbamboomosaic Alpine Media Ltd, 8 Academy Street, Inverness IV1 1JT, United Kingdom, company no. SC806427, is responsible for personal information it receives through editorial correspondence. Contact [email protected] for privacy enquiries.
Reading the website
The site code does not include advertising trackers, analytics libraries, third-party embeds or remote fonts. Loading a page necessarily involves communication with the hosting infrastructure, including your IP address and technical request information. Hosting and security systems may process access logs to deliver pages, diagnose faults and prevent abuse. This notice does not promise that infrastructure outside the page code keeps no logs.
The local enquiry console
Fields in the enquiry console are processed in your browser to prepare plain text. The tool has no message-submission endpoint and does not send draft contents to us. It does not deliberately save drafts to cookies or localStorage. Browser autofill, extensions and device features operate under your own browser settings.
“Copy Enquiry” writes the prepared text to your clipboard when permission allows. “Download .txt” creates a file on your device. You control its later storage, sharing and deletion. If you paste the text into an email application and send it, your email provider and ours process that correspondence.
Information you email
Correspondence may include your name, email address, message and any attachments you choose to provide. We use it to consider editorial questions, verify corrections, respond where appropriate and manage relevant records. Our lawful basis is generally our legitimate interest in running and improving an independent publication and responding to readers. Legal obligations may require separate processing in specific circumstances.
Please do not send medical records, special-category personal information or identifying details about children or safeguarding cases. This is not a clinical, emergency or safeguarding reporting service. If unnecessary sensitive material is received, we may remove it or ask for a version without that information.
Sharing, retention and security
We do not sell reader information. Service providers supporting email and hosting may process information as needed to provide those services, and disclosure may be necessary to comply with law or protect legal rights. Where international processing occurs, applicable transfer requirements must be respected.
Correspondence is kept only as long as reasonably necessary for the enquiry, correction record or applicable legal obligation. Retention depends on context rather than a promise that every message is deleted after a fixed period. We take reasonable steps to protect information, but no internet transmission or device is completely secure.
Preferences and browser storage
The cookie controls can save a preference in localStorage on your device. The entry contains the selected preference, not your enquiry. Read the Cookies policy for details and controls.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law provides rights to access, correct or erase personal information, restrict processing, object to processing and receive certain information in a portable form. Rights are subject to applicable conditions and exemptions. Contact us with enough information to identify the relevant correspondence; we may need to verify your identity without collecting excessive information.
You may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. You can contact us first, but doing so is not a condition of approaching the regulator.
External links and changes
External organisations control their own websites and privacy practices. Check their notices before providing information. This policy may change if the website’s functions or processing change; consult this page for the current text.
